Day 71: 10/3/17  Big Guy on a Little Bike

Miles: 42 Steps: 5,565 Vertical gain: 861 feet Liquid consumed: 160 oz. Wildlife: Rabbits, cattle, dogs Faith in Humanity: El Presidente coming through today with the bike borrow, letting me stay with him, picking me up at the end of the day. You’re the man! Why walk a dead straight and flat Riad when you can ride a bike??! Reagan was kind enough to drop me off with his bicycle where he picked me up yesterday so I could ride some miles rather than hike. The bike was definitely small, but on flat terrain it wouldn’t matter. A really pretty ride through farmland (mostly growing potatoes), through DelNorte where I stopped at Subway for a couple of hours and enjoyed a sub. I love Subway because you can get so many vegetables included with the price. Mmmm! Next was 16 more flat Miles to South Fork. I debated trying to get a little farther and decided against it. This bike is small, I am large, and going uphill doesn’t sound that much fun, haha. I spent some time in the library on the internet and then ended up riding a few more miles back to a rest area I briefly stopped at on my way into town. The upside? It was extremely windy at this point and I could use a tail wind to ride to the rest stop. Doesn’t it always seem like if there’s wind that it’s a headwind? Not this time? It felt glorious. Eventually El Presidente came and picked me up and we went to a brewery in Del Norte for a couple beers and to eat dinner. Very trendy spot for Del Norte, I must say. I was a bit surprised. I looked a bit like a fool in my biking outfit, but what can you do, so is life ok the road... I decided to take a rest day tomorrow, why not?
